The short answer: battlegrounds and a seasonal honor track
WoW Forever's PvP is built around battlegrounds, world PvP and a new seasonal honor track.
Its headline addition is the Darkspear Islands, a new 15 vs 15 battleground.
There will be no rated PvP, a developer said in Blizzard's official Q&A stream.
Blizzard's posts and that answer do not mention arenas at all.
Instead, the old ranking system is reimagined as an honor track that resets each season.
Seasons will line up with raid tier releases.
The October 1 beta update raised most PvP gear and token honor costs by about 50%.
The honor cap went up from 15,000 to 25,000 at the same time.
This page gathers Blizzard's written posts, the developer Q&A and the beta notes.
It is a summary of official material, not a hands-on test.
Where Blizzard has said nothing, we say so instead of guessing.
Darkspear Islands: the new 15 vs 15 battleground
Blizzard announced the Darkspear Islands on September 12, 2026.
It was part of the What's Next panel recap.
It is a 15 vs 15 battleground off the coast of Kalimdor.
It combines strategic control points with Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Team size | 15 vs 15 |
| Location | Off the coast of Kalimdor |
| Objectives | Control points plus flag captures and defenseArathi Basin style |

| Opening date and level bracket | Not announcedas of October 5, 2026 |
From Blizzard's What's Next recap of September 12, 2026 and the September 17 developer Q&A.
In the developer Q&A, the battleground was said to have a brand new reputation.
That reputation is another progression track with its own rewards.
Blizzard's beta announcement said it would open for testing as the beta continues.
As of October 5, 2026, we found no Blizzard post giving the date it opens on the beta.
Blizzard has not published a launch date, level bracket or map layout for it either.
Player reports say it is already open on the beta; Blizzard has not confirmed them.
Blizzard placed the screenshot below directly under its Darkspear Islands paragraph.
The post does not label where the picture was taken.

No rated PvP: ranks become a seasonal honor track
Blizzard held a live developer Q&A on its official YouTube channel on September 17, 2026.
The last question asked how PvP in Forever will differ from other versions of the game.
The developer said Blizzard wants to embrace the Horde and Alliance conflict.
PvP is something the team wants to heavily invest in and support.
But the developer was clear that there won't be any rated PvP.
The PvP ranking system has been reimagined instead.
A new PvP track lets you gain honor, level up through it and earn its own PvP rewards.
The track will reset every season or tier.
Seasons will be aligned with Blizzard's tier and raid releases.
| Topic | What Blizzard said | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Rated PvP | There won't be any | Developer Q&A, Sept 17 |
| Ranking system | Reimagined as a new PvP track to gain honor and level up | Developer Q&A, Sept 17 |
| Season reset | Resets every season or tieraligned with raid releases | Developer Q&A, Sept 17 |
| Honor tuning | Adjusted so players don't feel stuck in Alterac Valley | Developer Q&A, Sept 17 |
| Arenas | Not mentioned | All sources on this page |
Developer remarks from Blizzard's official live Q&A (English, auto-captioned), not a written announcement.
The team also looked at how people play battlegrounds and adjusted honor to match.
The goal is that players do not feel they must sit in Alterac Valley over and over.
In the same answer the developer named Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin too.
More battlegrounds will come in the future, the developer added.
Blizzard has not published the track's levels, rewards or season length in writing.
These points come from a live stream, so treat them as plans that can still change.
October 1 beta change: honor costs and the 25,000 cap
Blizzard's beta development notes were updated on October 1, 2026 at 22:56 UTC.
The Player versus Player part has two changes.
Honor costs for PvP gear and upgrade tokens were adjusted.
Most item costs went up by about 50%.
Blizzard says this better aligns them with its gear acquisition targets.
The honor cap went up from 15,000 to 25,000 to make room for the new costs.
| Item | Before | After October 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Most PvP gear and upgrade tokens | Earlier honor cost | About 50% more honor |
| Honor cap | 15,000 | 25,000 |
Blizzard beta development notes, update of October 1, 2026.
That is 10,000 more honor you can hold, an increase of about two-thirds (our calculation).
The notes do not list individual item prices, so we do not either.
This is a beta change, and costs can move again before launch on November 4.
In short: most PvP gear and tokens cost more honor, but you can save more of it.
Queues, rulesets and the one-faction rule
Forever has no realm list; you pick a ruleset: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying or Hardcore.
Hardcore arrives sometime after launch.
You can only group with players who chose the same ruleset.
Battlegrounds are the exception: they may include players from other rulesets.
Hardcore is the exception to that exception and stays separate.
Factions also stay separate, so the Horde and the Alliance still cannot group together.
On the PvP ruleset you can create characters for one faction only.
Once you make an Alliance character there, you cannot make a Horde one, and vice versa.
On Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore you can create characters of both factions.
| Ruleset | Battleground queue | Factions you can create |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Can meet other rulesets | Both |
| PvP | Can meet other rulesets | One onlyfaction balance system |
| Roleplaying | Can meet other rulesets | Both |
| Hardcore (after launch) | Kept apart from other rulesets | Both |
Blizzard's ruleset article of September 21, 2026.
The PvP ruleset also gets a faction balance system like the one in Season of Discovery.
There, new characters for one faction were sometimes limited when balance needed help.
Blizzard has not published the thresholds that would trigger such a limit.
Collections and Legacy Points are shared across rulesets.
Hardcore is handled differently.
So PvP Legacy Points earned on the PvP ruleset also count for your Normal characters.
PvP in the Legacy System: 12 points
The Legacy System is an account-wide progression system with 65 Legacy Challenges.
Each completed challenge gives one Legacy Point.
PvP is one of six categories and is worth 12 points in total.
In the Legacy Challenges window, Player vs. Player is the third category.

Reaching ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 gives 5 points.
Reaching Exalted with each battleground reputation gives 4 points.
Blizzard does not list those four reputations by name.
The new Darkspear Islands reputation is probably one of them (our reading).
Quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10 of the Field of Honor PvP Season's Journey give 3 points.
The 12 PvP Legacy Points
Blizzard has not said in writing if that journey is the honor track from the Q&A.
At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points.
One character alone can earn up to 29 points, and 12 of those come from PvP.
Without PvP, one character tops out at 17 points (our calculation: 29 − 12).
| Challenge | Points | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Ranks | 5 | Reach ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 |
| Battleground reputations | 4 | Exalted with each battleground reputation |
| Season's Journey | 3 | Quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10Field of Honor PvP Season's Journey |
Total: 12 of the 65 Legacy Points. The U.S. English, German and Korean announcements match.
PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore.
Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific challenges for that launch instead.
The Resourcefulness tree's For Great Honor perk increases honor gained from PvP.
High Alert raises stealth detection, but not in battlegrounds.
Field Medicine shortens Recently Bandaged, but not in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.
PvP on the roadmap
Blizzard's What's Next recap lists PvP updates among content after the December 9 raids.
The 2026–2027 roadmap image shows a PvP season refresh in the spring major update.
It shows another PvP season refresh in the summer major update.
The spring update also brings 2 new raids.
The summer update adds a revamped iconic raid and a new raid.
That fits the plan to align seasons with raid tiers (our reading).
| Season | PvP on the roadmap | Raids in the same update |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | Not listed separately | Raids unlock December 9 |
| Spring | PvP season refresh | 2 new raids |
| Summer | PvP season refresh |
|
Blizzard's 2026–2027 roadmap image. Content and timing subject to change.
The roadmap gives no dates after December 9.
It also says content and timing are subject to change.
It is not announced whether the first honor season starts at launch on November 4.
It could also begin with the December 9 raids; Blizzard has not said.

Not announced yet and what to do before launch
As of October 5, 2026, Blizzard has not announced the following.

There are no level brackets for battlegrounds.
Blizzard has not said in writing which classic battlegrounds are available at launch.
The honor track's levels, rewards, season length and first season start are not published.
