What is World of Warcraft: Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s third World of Warcraft experience alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic.

It is a permanent game built from the original level 1–60 Azeroth, not a temporary season, a game mode, or a new release of Classic.

Its story begins in Azeroth’s early Year 1, after Warcraft III: Reforged — Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core.

The familiar continents remain the foundation, while new quests, zones, dungeons, raids, characters, and systems expand that era in its own timeline.

The global launch is November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST. That falls on November 5 in many European and Asian time zones, so check the date shown on your regional Blizzard page before planning launch day.

The beta began September 17 and runs through October 21 in the PST reference schedule.

Blizzard is inviting selected opt-in players throughout the test; eligible Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection purchases also include beta access. Test progress should not be treated as permanent launch progress.

Do you need to buy the game?

Launch access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time.

The Heroic Pack, Epic Pack, and Warcraft Forever Collection are optional upgrades for benefits such as cosmetics, the Skyborne starting experience, name reservation, or beta access; they are not required just to play at launch.

If you only want the base experience, wait for launch and use your subscription.

If you want beta access or a specific upgrade reward, compare the regional Battle.net offer first because price, taxes, contents, and availability can differ by market.

How it differs from WoW Classic

Forever keeps the original 1–60 journey, deliberate combat pace, class identity, faction separation, and a world where travel matters.

It then adds more than 1,000 quests, new areas, dungeons and raids, the Skyborne race, new race-and-class combinations, revised talents and itemization, deeper professions, campsites, and an account-wide Legacy system.

Blizzard has also announced Classic and modern visual presets, standard- and high-definition character models, optional transmogrification, and controller support.

The aim is to preserve the feel of original Azeroth while giving players more ways to experience it.

Choose a ruleset before you choose a character

Forever replaces the traditional realm list with larger ruleset ecosystems. Normal, PvP, and Roleplaying are planned for launch, while Hardcore arrives later.

Players in different rulesets cannot group for dungeons or raids, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together.

Different rulesets cannot group for dungeons or raids, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together.

If you are playing with friends, agree on ruleset, faction, and language preference before creating characters. This single decision prevents the most expensive launch-day mistake: discovering that your group cannot play together.

A practical launch checklist

First, confirm that your computer meets the official system requirements. Next, decide whether a normal subscription is enough or whether an optional upgrade has a benefit you actually want.

Then choose a ruleset and faction with friends, shortlist a class and race, and verify your regional launch time.

Beta balance, numbers, and available content can change before release. Use beta information to learn the shape of the game, not as a permanent promise.
