The short answer: neither skill uses a primary slot

Blizzard says each character can learn 2 primary professions and all 3 secondary ones.

Cooking, First Aid and Fishing are the 3 secondary professions.

So neither skill takes up a primary slot, and you can still pick any 2 primaries later.

Cooking makes food, and Blizzard says crafted food can give a small XP bonus and stats.

It also builds the Basic Campfire, and cooks can later learn fires for 5 or 10 objects.

First Aid creates survival supplies, Blizzard's Starter Guide says.

We checked Blizzard's articles in three languages on November 5, 2026.

Blizzard gives no recipe numbers, so this guide leaves them out; check tooltips in game.

Recipe names marked Wowhead come from a fan database and are unconfirmed.

This is a summary of sources, not a hands-on test.

What each skill gives you

Blizzard's Starter Guide: Cooking prepares food, and First Aid creates survival supplies.

Blizzard's WoW Classic primer says even a healing class can benefit from First Aid.

That tip predates Forever, and we found no Forever article that repeats it.

From Blizzard's Starter Guide, Deep Dive recap, camping article and Legacy System article.

Blizzard's camp table lists the Basic Campfire at Cooking 1.

It lists the First Aid Kit at First Aid 20.

Fishing is the third secondary skill, and it has its own guide.

We do not rank these skills or estimate gold income; no official numbers support either.

Cooking: crafted food with a small XP bonus

Blizzard says crafted food was adjusted to grant a small experience bonus and stat boosts.

It also says food buffs received a major update in Forever.

The campfire is a natural place to refresh those buffs, Blizzard adds.

Blizzard gives no size for the bonus, no duration and no list of foods.

So read the tooltip on each food before you cook a stack.

Innkeepers also sell food and drink, the Starter Guide says.

Blizzard's wording covers crafted food, so do not assume bought food has the same bonus.

Wowhead lists Roasted Boar Meat, made from Chunk of Boar Meat (unconfirmed).

Fishing catches useful ingredients, Blizzard says, and our fishing guide covers it.

First Aid: survival supplies and bandages

Blizzard's Starter Guide says First Aid creates survival supplies.

Blizzard's Legacy article names a bandage effect: the Recently Bandaged debuff.

Blizzard's articles give no duration for that debuff and no healing number for a bandage.

Wowhead lists Linen Bandage, made from Linen Cloth (unconfirmed).

Press K to check what you can make and what it needs.

First Aid also has a camp object, which the next section covers.

Campfires and camp objects

Placing a Basic Campfire creates a campsite where players can rest.

Blizzard says a campsite can offer vendors, repairs, workspaces and one-hour buffs.

The fire allows cooking and up to 3 extra camp features, one from each nearby player.

Sit or craft nearby for 1 minute to gain the benefits of the others.

All camp features need a campfire nearby and share a 1-hour cooldown.

Blizzard says cooks can later learn upgraded campfires for 5 or 10 objects.

It does not name the skill levels those fires need.

First Aid's sample camp feature is the First Aid Kit, at First Aid 20.

It gives you and others sitting nearby 3–56 more Stamina, depending on level.

It does not stack with Power Word: Fortitude, Blizzard says.

From Blizzard's camping article and Deep Dive recap.

Every profession has 3 different objects learned at different skill levels.

Items that require skill 140 or higher drop in dungeons and raids, Blizzard says.

On a PvP ruleset, the risk grows when enemy players come upon your camp.

How to start: trainer, first recipes, first fire

Blizzard says to speak with the trainer in a starting area or major city.

Trainers teach the profession, first recipes and higher ranks as level and skill rise.

If you cannot find one, ask a city guard and follow the marker on your map.

Early on, a simple quest introduces camping, Blizzard says.

Press K to open the Professions tab and see your recipes and materials.

It also shows whether a craft will raise your skill.

The Basic Campfire needs only Cooking 1 in Blizzard's camp table.

Other first camp items need profession skill level 20, via a starter quest or a trainer.

Your first steps

  1. Find a trainerStarting area or major city
  2. Learn both skillsNo primary slot used
  3. Press K and craftRead each tooltip
  4. Build a campfireCooking 1
  5. Reach skill level 20Other first camp items

Blizzard's articles do not list which recipes a trainer teaches.

Wowhead's pages do not show it either, so we cannot name an official first recipe.

Profession ranks go from Apprentice to Journeyman, Expert and finally Artisan.

Blizzard's articles give no skill caps or training costs for these two skills.

To unlearn a profession, open the Professions tab and click the X next to it.

Legacy Points and perks for these skills

These two skills do not earn Tradeskills Legacy Points (our reading).

Blizzard's challenge counts only non-gathering primary professions at 150, 225 and 300.

You can still buy helpful perks, with up to 16 points to spend per character at launch.

Master Chef gives your cooking recipes a chance to produce additional results.

Field Medicine shortens the Recently Bandaged debuff.

It does not work in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.

Gourmand lengthens buffs from eating food.

Field Guide reduces the 1-hour cooldown on placing camp features.

Reagent Economy makes tier 1 camp features free of materials.

Blizzard does not say whether the Basic Campfire counts as tier 1.

Not announced yet, and a short checklist

As of November 5, 2026, we could not find the following in Blizzard's articles.

The size of the food bonus and which foods have it.

Bandage healing numbers and the length of Recently Bandaged.

Which recipes each trainer teaches, training costs and the level each rank needs.

The skill levels and drop sources of upgraded campfires.

① Learn Cooking and First Aid early, since they use no primary slot.

② Press K and read each recipe's materials as you level.

③ Compare food tooltips before you cook a stack.

④ Try a Basic Campfire, which Blizzard lists at Cooking 1.

⑤ Reach profession skill level 20 for other first camp items, and plan Legacy perks later.
