The short answer: classic fishing, new camp objects

Fishing in WoW Forever works much like it did in classic WoW.

You equip a pole, cast Fishing at water and click the bobber when it splashes.

Fishing has four ranks: Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan.

Trainers teach the first two ranks, a book teaches Expert and a quest teaches Artisan.

The Expert book raises your skill cap to 225.

The biggest Forever change is at the campsite.

Anglers can place a Fish Bowl at skill 20, a Fishing Rack at 140 and a Fishing Hut at 300.

The Rack and the Hut let you catch uncommon and rare fish for 1 hour.

Blizzard says crafted food now gives a small experience bonus.

Blizzard has published almost nothing about fishing itself.

So most details here come from Wowhead's WoW Forever beta data, a fan database.

Beta values can still change before launch.

This is a summary of official material and beta data, not a hands-on test.

How to learn fishing: four ranks

Fishing is a secondary skill, like Cooking.

A fishing trainer teaches Apprentice Fishing and the Fishing spell.

Journeyman Fishing is also taught by fishing trainers.

Wowhead's Forever fishing guide lists Apprentice as 1–75 and Journeyman as 75–150.

RankSkill rangeHow you learn it
Apprentice1–75Wowhead guideFishing trainer
Journeyman75–150Wowhead guideFishing trainer
Expert150–225cap 225 from the book tooltipBook from Old Man Heming, Booty Bayneeds Fishing 125 and level 20
Artisan225–300Wowhead guideQuest from Nat Pagle, Dustwallow Marshguide: level 35 and Fishing 225

Ranks and the Expert cap come from Wowhead WoW Forever beta tooltips; the other ranges and NPC places come from Wowhead's Forever fishing guide.

Expert Fishing comes from the book Expert Fishing - The Bass and You.

Old Man Heming, a fisherman in Booty Bay, sells it.

The beta tooltip asks for Fishing 125 and character level 20.

Reading it raises your maximum Fishing skill to 225.

Artisan Fishing is the reward for the quest Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme.

The guide puts Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh; his quest needs level 35 and Fishing 225.

He asks for four special fish from four coasts and rivers.

Misty Reed Mahi Mahi comes from the Misty Reed Strand in Swamp of Sorrows.

Sar'theris Striker comes from the Sar'theris Strand in Desolace.

Feralas Ahi comes from the Verdantis River in Feralas.

Savage Coast Blue Sailfin comes from the Savage Coast of Stranglethorn Vale.

On Wowhead's beta quest page, the reward is the fourth Fishing rank.

The guide gives Expert as 150–225 and Artisan as 225–300.

Where to find fishing trainers

Blizzard has not published a fishing trainer list for Forever.

The names below are fishing NPCs in Wowhead's WoW Forever beta data.

Their places come from Wowhead's Forever fishing guide.

Each Alliance and Horde capital has a fishing trainer.

Alliance: Arnold Leland (Stormwind), Grimnur Stonebrand (Ironforge), Astaia (Darnassus).

Horde: Lumak in Orgrimmar, Kah Mistrunner in Thunder Bluff, Armand Cromwell in Undercity.

The guide also lists trainers in towns near the starting zones.

Two new areas have fishing NPCs as well.

On Zephras Isle, the guide lists Fenn Fairweather and Baelann Swiftcurrent.

In the Riverglades, it lists Krix at Powderfuse Port.

The guide lists these three as neutral, along with Myizz Luckycatch in Booty Bay.

Wowhead's own NPC pages don't show locations yet, so check in game before you travel.

Fishing poles and lures

You need a fishing pole equipped to fish.

The basic Fishing Pole is sold by vendors and has no skill requirement.

Better poles add Fishing skill while equipped.

Lures add skill for a few minutes when you apply them to your pole.

The Fishing tooltip says higher skill raises your success chance in higher-level areas.

Shiny Bauble adds 25 skill for 10 minutes and has no skill requirement.

Nightcrawlers add 50 for 10 minutes and need Fishing 50.

Bright Baubles and Flesh Eating Worm add 75 for 10 minutes and need Fishing 100.

Aquadynamic Fish Attractor adds 100 for 5 minutes and needs Fishing 100.

Wowhead WoW Forever beta tooltips and Wowhead's Forever fishing guide, checked October 14, 2026.

The beta tooltips and Wowhead's guide disagree on three pole bonuses.

Beta tooltips show Strong 45, Blump Family 27 and Big Iron 42.

The guide lists 5, 3 and 20, the same values as in classic WoW.

We leave those three bonuses open until the data settles.

Where to fish at each skill level

Each zone has a minimum Fishing skill and a skill at which every cast catches a fish.

Blizzard has not published these values for Forever.

The table uses the zone list in Wowhead's Forever fishing guide.

Skill to fishEvery cast catchesExample zones
125Elwynn Forest, Durotar, Zephras Isle and other starting zones
175Capital cities, The Barrens, Westfall
55150Ashenvale, Duskwood, Redridge Mountains, Wetlands
130225Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace
205300Feralas, Tanaris, The Hinterlands, Azshara
330425Winterspring, Silithus, Eastern Plaguelands

From Wowhead's Forever fishing guide (fan site, beta), checked October 14, 2026. Some zones have parts with other values.

In starting zones such as Elwynn Forest, Durotar and Zephras Isle, you can fish from 1.

There every cast catches a fish from skill 25.

The capitals, The Barrens and Westfall also start at 1, with a sure catch at 75.

Ashenvale, Duskwood, Redridge Mountains and Wetlands need 55, with a sure catch at 150.

Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale and Desolace need 130, with a sure catch at 225.

Feralas, Tanaris, The Hinterlands and Azshara need 205, with a sure catch at 300.

Winterspring, Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands need 330, with a sure catch at 425.

Our calculation: 330 is above the 300 cap, so you need pole or lure bonuses there.

The guide suggests a Shiny Bauble below skill 25 and capital cities for 75–150.

For 150–225, it suggests Dustwallow Marsh or Stranglethorn Vale.

Its 225–300 section was not written yet when we checked on October 14, 2026.

Some fish come mainly from schools, marked pools such as Oily Blackmouth School.

Fishing at a campsite: Fish Bowl, Fishing Rack and Fishing Hut

At a Basic Campfire, each nearby player can add one crafted camp object.

All camp objects share a one-hour cooldown.

Blizzard says the first objects are learned at skill 20 from NPCs or trainers.

Fishing has three camp objects in the beta data.

The Fish Bowl needs Fishing 20.

Its recipe uses one Raw Brilliant Smallfish and one Empty Vial and makes 2 bowls.

Players sitting nearby gain 8% stats; this doesn't stack with Blessing of Kings.

Wowhead's guide says trainers teach the Fish Bowl.

The Fishing Rack needs Fishing 140.

For 1 hour it lets you catch uncommon fish and provides Fishing skill lures.

It also gives everything a Fish Bowl gives and can replace one.

Its Blueprint drops from Gelihast at a 0.88% rate in the beta data.

Wowhead's guide places Gelihast in Blackfathom Deeps.

Wowhead WoW Forever beta tooltips, checked October 14, 2026. All camp objects need a campfire nearby.

The Fishing Hut needs Fishing 300.

For 1 hour it lets you catch rare fish and also gives lures and Fish Bowl benefits.

It uses 5 Simple Wood, 2 Bolt of Runecloth and 1 Seasonal Fish Steaks.

The beta data does not show where its Blueprint comes from.

Each object needs a campfire nearby.

Blizzard has not announced these fishing objects; they come from beta tooltips.

From catch to cooking pot and alchemy lab

Fish feed Cooking, and a few fish feed Alchemy.

Blizzard says crafted food now gives a small experience bonus and stat increases.

Beta food tooltips show the bonus as 5% more experience from kills.

After 10 seconds of eating, cooked fish give a well-fed buff for 15 minutes.

Brilliant Smallfish gives 2 Attack Power.

Baked Salmon gives 28 Spell Damage and needs level 45.

Mightfish Steak gives 40 Attack Power and needs level 45.

Oily Blackmouth makes Blackmouth Oil for Swim Speed Potion and Draught of Water Breathing.

Firefin Snapper makes Fire Oil for Elixir of Fire Power.

Stonescale Eel makes Stonescale Oil for Elixir of Greater Defense and Flask of the Titans.

One Flask of the Titans needs 10 Stonescale Oil.

Blizzard says over 600 new recipes arrive across professions.

Full recipe lists are not published, so this table shows only examples.

Legacy perks, the Stranglethorn contest and what's not announced

Profession challenges count non-gathering primary professions at 150, 225 and 300.

Fishing is a secondary skill, so in our reading it earns no Legacy Points by itself.

Three Legacy perks still help anglers.

Luremaster grants a chance to fish up extra fish.

Its size differs between beta sources, so we leave the number out.

Working Overtime raises your chance of skill-ups in all tradeskills.

Master Chef gives cooking recipes a chance to make extra results.

Stranglethorn Vale still has its fishing contest, the quest Master Angler.

Its text asks for 40 Speckled Tastyfish from the Stranglethorn coast.

The quest text names a contest window from 2pm to 4pm.

Anglers who are not first can still sell Tastyfish to the apprentice in sets of 5.

Wowhead's beta quest page offers Arcanite Fishing Pole or Hook of the Master Angler.

A beta effect, Master Angler!, grants the Master Angler title for that week.

Blizzard has not published the contest day, time zone or any reward changes.
