The short answer

The Hall of Thanes is one of the nine new dungeons in World of Warcraft: Forever, and Blizzard places it beneath Ironforge.

Blizzard lists it for levels 13–18, and it opened in the first week of the beta together with Ruins of Lordaeron.

In the Wowhead Forever beta data we checked on September 27, 2026, the dungeon has five quests: four marked Alliance and one with no faction marker.

The fan site ForeverChanges counts all five for the Alliance, but Blizzard has not published quest access by faction.

How many the Horde can take is unconfirmed: the beta data leaves one quest without a faction marker, and a third-party list names two for both factions.

The only quest chain the data confirms runs from the Dark Iron Map item to Underground Map and then to Old Ironforge Incursion.

The dungeon has four bosses, and every boss item we found is Rare quality at item level 18.

This guide is compiled from Blizzard announcements, beta game data and third-party beta reports; we did not play through the dungeon ourselves.

For how the Hall of Thanes compares with the other new dungeons, see our dungeons and raids overview.

Where each fact comes from

We sort every fact in this guide into three tiers and name the tier in the text.

TierWhat it covers hereHow to treat it
BlizzardLevels 13–18, location, first beta week, the September 24 quest fix, loot and faction rulesConfirmed
Beta game data (Wowhead Forever)Quest names, levels, objectives, faction markers, the quest chain, item statsBeta client data; can change
Third-party beta reports (ForeverChanges)Which boss dropped what, quest-giver spots, the vault tablet, fight notesUnconfirmedobservations up to September 25

Blizzard’s own pages give the level range of 13–18, the location beneath Ironforge, the first beta week, the quest fix of September 24 and the general loot and faction rules.

Beta game data means what Wowhead’s World of Warcraft: Forever database reads from the beta client: quest names, levels, objectives, faction markers and item stats.

Wowhead is a fan database, not Blizzard, so this data can change with any beta build.

Third-party beta reports come mainly from the fan site ForeverChanges, which lists drops seen in the beta up to September 25, 2026.

We use them only where neither Blizzard nor the game data answers a question, and we say so each time.

Level range and how to get there

Blizzard’s dungeon level list of September 15 and its beta announcement both give the Hall of Thanes a range of levels 13–18.

In the beta data, the five dungeon quests are level 15 or 16.

The Dun Morogh quests that point you toward Earthseer Farsen are level 13, and Underground Map is level 15.

Suggested entry15–16Our judgment

The text of Old Ironforge Incursion says the Hall of Thanes lies beneath Old Ironforge.

ForeverChanges says beta players enter from the High Seat, King Magni’s throne room inside Ironforge; Blizzard has not described the entrance itself.

Our suggestion is to do the Dun Morogh quests around levels 13–14 and enter at 15–16, before you outlevel the dungeon quests.

The only entrance reported so far is this one inside Ironforge, and whether the Horde has another way in is unconfirmed.

Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap also says Horde and Alliance players still cannot group together.

Quest prep: the five dungeon quests

The beta data we checked on September 27, 2026 lists five Hall of Thanes quests: four marked Alliance and An Ancient Grudge with no faction marker.

Quest (level)Starts fromObjectiveFaction marker
Old Ironforge Incursion (16)Earthseer Farsen, Dun MoroghDurgen Dirgehammer’s HeadAlliance

An Ancient Grudge (15)Ghostly Attendantinside the dungeon, per ForeverChangesLay Faldrim Anvilmar to restNo markerForeverChanges: both factions
The Treaty of Understanding (16)Tablet found in the vaultDeliver it to King Magni BronzebeardAlliance

Levels, objectives and faction markers: Wowhead Forever beta data checked September 27, 2026. Quest-giver spots marked with a note come from ForeverChanges.

ForeverChanges counts all five for the Alliance; Blizzard has not confirmed which faction can accept which quest.

Old Ironforge Incursion (level 16) asks for Durgen Dirgehammer’s Head, which the game data lists as dropped by Durgen Dirgehammer.

The Restless Dead (level 15) asks you to kill 15 Enraged Apparitions and 10 Tormented Souls and to put Anvilmar’s spirit to rest.

Important Heirlooms (level 15) asks you to collect 8 Dwarven Heirlooms in the dungeon.

An Ancient Grudge (level 15) asks you to put the spirit of Faldrim Anvilmar to rest.

The Treaty of Understanding (level 16) starts from a tablet you find in a vault and ends with King Magni Bronzebeard in Ironforge.

ForeverChanges reports Afadra Dunwall and Thom Filch in Ironforge and the Ghostly Attendant inside the dungeon; Blizzard has not published where quest givers stand.

Blizzard’s beta notes of September 24 resolved an issue where several dungeon quests could be shared and gave the receiving player a quest item.

The notes do not name those quests, so whether the Hall of Thanes quests can be shared is unconfirmed.

Horde: quest access is unconfirmed

Wowhead’s beta data marks four of the five quests as Alliance and shows no faction marker on An Ancient Grudge.

ForeverChanges lists both An Ancient Grudge and Important Heirlooms as open to both factions.

A missing faction marker does not prove the Horde can accept a quest, and the two sources disagree about Important Heirlooms.

Blizzard has not said which Hall of Thanes quests the Horde can take, so we give no number for the Horde.

The only entrance reported so far is inside Ironforge, and whether the Horde has another way in is unconfirmed.

Our advice for Horde players: treat the Hall of Thanes mainly as a boss-loot run until launch data settles the quest question.

Dark Iron Map to Old Ironforge Incursion: the confirmed link

The Dark Iron Map is an item that starts a quest, and the beta data lists it as Binds when picked up and Unique.

Those tags mean the map cannot be traded; the data does not say whether Underground Map can be shared in a party.

The data we checked does not say which enemy drops the map, so we do not name one.

Using the map starts Underground Map (level 15): bring the map to Earthseer Farsen in Dun Morogh.

Wowhead’s quest chain then continues to Old Ironforge Incursion (level 16), in which Farsen sends you into the Hall of Thanes for Durgen Dirgehammer’s head.

The quest text asks you to deliver the head to King Magni Bronzebeard.

This map-to-Incursion link is the only chain the beta data shows for the dungeon.

Confirmed quest chain (beta data)

  1. Dark Iron MapItem that starts a quest; Binds when picked up, Unique
  2. Underground Map (15)Bring the map to Earthseer Farsen in Dun Morogh
  3. Old Ironforge Incursion (16)Take Durgen Dirgehammer’s Head in the dungeon
  4. King Magni BronzebeardTurn in the head in Ironforge

Suggested Dun Morogh route (not a requirement)

Three level 13 quests in Dun Morogh lead you to Earthseer Farsen and the Dark Iron threat.

A Visitor to Dun Morogh asks you to investigate the campsite overlooking the Gol’Bolar Quarry.

Farsen’s Watch asks you to speak with Earthseer Farsen and use Farsen’s Farsight to observe the Dark Iron threat.

Nip ’Em in the Bud asks you to slay 10 Dark Iron Spies in Dun Morogh.

Beta data. Not shown as part of the Underground Map chain.

Wowhead’s chain display does not connect these three quests to Underground Map, so we treat them as a recommended route, not a requirement.

Blizzard has not said whether any quest is needed to enter the dungeon.

Our suggested order is these three quests around levels 13–14, then the map chain, then the dungeon at 15–16.

Before you go in: checklist

This list is our advice built from the facts above.

Alliance players should pick up Old Ironforge Incursion, The Restless Dead and Important Heirlooms before entering.

Aim for levels 15–16, inside Blizzard’s range of 13–18.

Bring a way to remove curses or cure diseases if your group has one, because ForeverChanges reports both in the Faldrim Anvilmar fight.

Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says crowd control such as Polymorph, Banish, Fear and Root still has a place in Forever dungeons.

Take An Ancient Grudge from the Ghostly Attendant once you are inside, as ForeverChanges reports.

Before you leave: the vault tablet

The Treaty of Understanding starts from a tablet, and the quest text says you find it inside a vault.

The tablet bears the sigils of Madoran Bronzebeard and Khardros Wildhammer, with the space for a third sigil left empty.

ForeverChanges places it behind the vault door of the last room, where Durgen Dirgehammer is fought, and notes that it is easy to walk past on the way to the exit lever.

ForeverChanges also reports about 24 Dwarven Heirlooms in the vaults of that room, more than the 8 the quest asks for.

Before you leave, check that you carry 8 Dwarven Heirlooms, Durgen Dirgehammer’s Head and the tablet.

Back in Ironforge, turn in Old Ironforge Incursion and The Treaty of Understanding to King Magni Bronzebeard.

Old Ironforge Incursion: pick one weapon

Old Ironforge Incursion lets you choose one of three weapons, all Rare quality at item level 18 in the beta data.

RewardTypeStats
Calibrated BlunderbussGun15–29 damage, speed 2.30, +3 Stamina
Ironforge GreathammerTwo-hand mace39–60 damage, speed 3.10, +4 Strength, +7 Stamina
DeepblazeWand22–41 Fire damage, speed 1.70

Rare, item level 18. Wowhead Forever beta data, September 27, 2026.

Calibrated Blunderbuss is a gun with 15–29 damage, speed 2.30 and +3 Stamina.

Ironforge Greathammer is a two-handed mace with 39–60 damage, speed 3.10, +4 Strength and +7 Stamina.

Deepblaze is a wand with 22–41 Fire damage and speed 1.70.

Our reading of the stats: the gun suits Hunters, the greathammer suits Strength-based two-handed fighters and the wand suits Mages, Priests and Warlocks.

Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says the dwarf racial Mace Specialization now raises critical strike chance with all spells and attacks while a mace is equipped; the beta data gives 1%.

Blizzard’s September 24 beta notes also say wands no longer gain damage from the user’s spell damage, so Deepblaze’s listed damage is what it does.

Rewards from the other quests

Three more quests each offer a choice of two Rare rewards at item level 17 in the beta data.

Important HeirloomsDwarven Tomeoff-hand, +2 Spirit, up to +4 spell damage and healingTomb Robber’s Glovescloth hands, +6 Intellect, +3 Stamina

Rare, item level 17. Wowhead Forever beta data.

An Ancient Grudge offers Catacomb Cloak (back, +6 Attack Power, +3 Stamina) or Deepgrave Trousers (leather legs, +7 Strength, +3 Agility, +3 Spirit).

The Restless Dead offers Dusty Belt (leather waist, +5 Agility, +4 Spirit) or Cryptwalker Bracers (mail wrists, +4 Strength, +3 Stamina).

Important Heirlooms offers Dwarven Tome (off-hand, +2 Spirit, up to +4 spell damage and healing) or Tomb Robber’s Gloves (cloth hands, +6 Intellect, +3 Stamina).

Our reading: physical fighters look at the cloak, the trousers, the belt and the bracers, while healers and casters look at the tome and the gloves.

Blizzard’s September 24 notes corrected the item level of a number of quest rewards, so check these numbers in the game.

Boss loot seen in the beta

Blizzard has not published a loot table for each Hall of Thanes boss.

The boss-to-item list below is what ForeverChanges recorded in the beta up to September 25, 2026; item names and stats come from Wowhead’s beta data.

Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says unique dungeon boss items are now Rare (blue) quality.

All 12 boss items we checked are Rare, item level 18, and require level 13.

Which boss dropped which item: ForeverChanges beta reports up to September 25, 2026, not confirmed by Blizzard.

Faldrim Anvilmar: Ephemeral Choker (neck), Aetherwisp Bracers (cloth wrists) and Spiritwraith Drape (back).

Magmatus: Kindlegem Girdle (mail waist), Flamefist Grips (leather hands) and Fang of Magmatus (main-hand dagger).

Plunder: Golemheart Stave (staff), Treads of the Protector Golem (mail feet) and Golemguard Chest (mail chest).

Durgen Dirgehammer: Durgen’s Crescent Axe (main-hand axe), Direhammer Leggings (leather legs) and Robes of the Disgraced Thane (cloth chest).

For casters, Fang of Magmatus and Golemheart Stave each add up to 18 spell damage and healing.

ForeverChanges’ fight notes: kill the summoner with Magmatus first, expect Plunder to knock players across the room, and expect Durgen Dirgehammer to fear the group at low health.

When a bind-on-pickup Uncommon or Rare item drops in a dungeon, Blizzard says its appearance is granted to all eligible looters at the moment someone loots the item.

Not confirmed yet: recheck after launch

This guide reflects the beta as of September 27, 2026.

Blizzard lists October 21 as the last full day of beta testing, and quests or rewards can still change before launch.

Blizzard’s September 24 notes already corrected the item level of some quest rewards.

Still unconfirmed: whether any quest is needed to enter, which quests each faction can take, whether the quests can be shared, which boss drops which item and how much experience each quest gives.

We will check every table in this guide again after launch and update it.
