The short answer
WoW Forever keeps the Classic stats you know.
Blizzard is reworking several of them and adding new ones.
For melee and ranged players, four changes matter most.
Weapon skill still works the same way, but each item gives less of it.
Hit chance is one stat for spells, melee and ranged attacks.
Critical chance is combined the same way.
A new stat on some items lowers the chance that your attacks are parried or dodged.
Racial weapon traits raise spell and ability critical chance.
They apply while you use a certain weapon type.
Blizzard has not published how much weapon skill an item gives.
The size and the name of the new stat are not published either.
The game-system facts below come from official Blizzard sources.
Those are the Deep Dive recap, the racial traits article and the September 24 beta posts.
The gear order near the end is our own judgment, and we label it that way.
Player reactions come from our daily report data of September 26, 2026.
Every stat change Blizzard has announced
Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says the goal is to keep Classic gameplay.
At the same time, Blizzard wants to ‘unsolve’ the path through it.
Gearing choices should vary more by role, activity and playstyle.
The table lists every stat change in that recap, in Blizzard’s own terms.
| Stat | Change in WoW Forever | Who Blizzard says it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon skill | Works as before, but less per item | Stops weapon skill gear being the obvious best pick |
| Hit chance | Spell, melee and ranged combined | Hybrids; Warriors, Hunters and Rogues |
| Critical chance | Spell, melee and ranged combined | Hybrids such as Retribution and Enhancement |
| New stat on some items | Lowers the chance to be parried or dodged | No class named |
| Bonus healing | Also adds bonus damageone third as much | Healers while questing |
| Caster weapons | Now grant spell damage and healing | Spellcasters while levelling |
Source: Blizzard’s Deep Dive panel recap, compared in English, German and Korean.
Bonus healing now also includes one third as much bonus damage.
That helps healers while questing.
Weapons made for spellcasters now grant spell damage and healing.
So casters also get level-up weapons.
Weapon skill: same rules, less per item
Blizzard says weapon skill still works as it always has.
What changes is the item side: gear with weapon skill offers less of it per item.
Blizzard’s stated reason is that such items should not always be the obvious best choice.
Blizzard has not said how much weapon skill a Forever item gives.
It has not compared that with the Classic version of the same item either.
In WoW Forever, racial weapon traits raise spell and ability critical chance.
Each one applies while a certain weapon type is equipped.
| Race | Racial trait | Effect in WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Sword Specialization | +2% spell and ability critical chance with swords |
| Orc | Axe Specialization | +1% spell and ability critical chance with axes |
| Dwarf | Mace Specialization | +1% spell and ability critical chance with maces |
| Tauren | Endurance | +5% total health and +1% hit chance |
Passive racial traits that touch weapons or hit, from Blizzard’s racial traits article.
Human Sword Specialization raises spell and ability critical chance by 2% with swords.
Orc Axe Specialization raises it by 1% with axes.
Dwarf Mace Specialization raises it by 1% with maces.
Tauren Endurance raises total health by 5% and hit chance by 1%, with no weapon condition.
These values come from Blizzard’s racial traits article of September 22.
They match in English, German and Korean.
Combined hit and crit: one number for every attack
In WoW Forever, spell, melee and ranged hit chance are combined into one stat.
Spell, melee and ranged critical chance are combined the same way.
Blizzard says this helps hybrid specializations that mix weapon swings and spells.
Its examples are Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shaman.
It also names Warriors, Hunters and Rogues.
They benefit when Taunts, Poisons and Traps land more reliably.
| Players | What Blizzard names | Why combined stats matter |
|---|---|---|
| Retribution Paladins | Hybrid specialization | Melee swings and Holy spells draw on the same hit and crit |
| Enhancement Shaman | Hybrid specialization | Weapon attacks and spells draw on the same hit and crit |
| Warriors, Hunters, Rogues | Taunts, Poisons, Traps | These tools become more reliable with hit |
Summary of the Deep Dive recap. The third column is our reading of Blizzard’s wording.
For gear, one hit item now counts for every kind of attack you make.
Blizzard has not published a hit cap for WoW Forever.
The miss chance against higher-level enemies is not published either.
The new stat against parries and dodges
According to the Deep Dive recap, some items get a new stat.
They reduce the chance for attacks to be parried or dodged.
It gives no name for this stat, no values and no list of classes or items that carry it.
We therefore do not call it by any name from other WoW versions here.
Blizzard’s September 24 known issues list has a line about Pet Expertise.
It says Pet Expertise is not yet displayed for Hunters and Warlocks.
That line is about pets on the character sheet.
Blizzard has not linked it to the new item stat.
Until Blizzard names the stat, compare it item by item in the beta tooltip.
Do not rely on an assumed value.
Hybrids and tanks: what the September 24 beta build changed
On September 24, 2026, community manager Kaivax posted development notes.
They cover a new beta build.
For Retribution Paladins, Vengeance now activates from non-periodic critical strikes.
It now stacks to 3 (was 5).
Two-Handed Weapon Specialization now increases damage by 2/4/6% (was 3/6/9%).
Sacred Arbiter now increases Holy Strike damage by 20% (was 10%).
Twist of Light also cuts the Mana cost of Seals by 20%.
Retribution Aura now updates its values with the caster’s spell power.
The Deep Dive recap adds a detail on Champion of the Light.
It increases spell damage based on Intellect.
For Enhancement Shaman, Rage of the Far Seer no longer increases spell casting speed.
Elemental Fury and Elemental Alacrity swapped places in the Elemental tree.
Blizzard says this affects Enhancement’s critical strike damage with spells.
Blizzard adds that it will use that room to give Enhancement more in the future.
For Protection Warriors, Bastion and Focused Rage swapped rows.
Now Focused Rage comes sooner.
Sunder Armor threat values were corrected on all ranks.
There is also a small increase to threat from Attack Power.
| Spec | September 24 beta change | Before |
|---|---|---|
| Retribution | Vengeance stacks to 3, from non-periodic crits | 5 stacks |
| Retribution | Two-Handed Weapon Specialization 2/4/6% | 3/6/9% |
| Retribution | Sacred Arbiter: Holy Strike damage +20% | +10% |
| Enhancement | Rage of the Far Seer: no spell casting speed | Had casting speed |
| Protection Warrior | Focused Rage moves before Bastion | Bastion first |
From Blizzard’s WoW Forever Beta Development Notes of September 24, 2026 (English only).
None of these notes changes weapon skill, hit or the new stat directly.
Glancing blows and the beta character sheet
The same September 24 known issues list has four notes on glancing blows.
The chance of a glancing blow is correct at all levels for melee characters.
The damage penalty of a glancing blow is correct against enemies of your own level.
It is not correct against higher-level enemies.
Glancing blow chance and damage for casters are wrong at all levels.
Because of this, the character sheet’s glancing blow chances are not accurate yet.
Blizzard marks all of these as work in progress.
How to compare gear in the beta: our method
Blizzard has not published stat weights for WoW Forever.
So this order is our own judgment from the official changes.
First, compare weapon damage, speed and your main stats.
The Deep Dive recap announces no change to these.
Second, treat weapon skill as one stat among others.
Blizzard lowered it per item on purpose.
Third, count hit and crit once, because each now covers spells, melee and ranged attacks.
Fourth, note any item that lowers parry or dodge chance.
Compare such items side by side in the tooltip.
Last, check your racial trait.
With one weapon type it adds 1% or 2% spell and ability critical chance.
That can tip a close choice.
Comparing two items (our method)
- Weapon and main statsDamage, speed, main stats
- Weapon skillOne stat among others
- Hit and critCount once for all attacks
- New parry/dodge statCompare in the tooltip
- Racial trait1% or 2% spell and ability crit by weapon
What is not announced yet, and what players are discussing
As of September 26, 2026, Blizzard has not published weapon skill values per item.
A hit cap and the name and size of the new stat are also unpublished.
It has also not said whether stat changes will differ between the beta and launch.
Players are discussing these gaps in the beta forums.
Our daily report data was collected on September 26, 2026.
In it, a r/classicwow thread about caster hit talent changes had 55 comments.
A Blizzard forum thread asked for hybrid gear for Feral Druids.
It had 34 replies and 394 views in the same data.
These are reactions, not facts.
We will update this guide when Blizzard publishes values.
