The short answer: two active traits and two passives per race
Every WoW Forever race has four racial traits: two active abilities and two passives.
Blizzard says they are tuned to a similar amount of offensive power.
Each race still keeps its own signature utility, according to the Deep Dive recap.
Blizzard lists ten trait sets: eight races plus the Horde and Alliance Skyborne.
The two Skyborne groups share three traits and differ in one active ability.
Three races get weapon passives: axes and maces add 1% spell and ability crit, swords 2%.
This page puts every trait side by side, worded as on Blizzard's own pages.
It adds the beta changes from the September 24 and October 1 development notes.
It is a summary of official material, not a hands-on test.
Blizzard has published no performance ranking of races, and we do not make one either.
If you are still choosing a class, start with our class and race guide.
How racial traits work in WoW Forever
Blizzard described the racial design in its Deep Dive recap on September 13, 2026.
It says racials were reworked to feel stronger, more distinct and more meaningful.
Blizzard adds that it did not want to push every race toward the same strengths.
Each race now has two active abilities and two passive abilities.
| Official source | Date | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Deep Dive panel recap | September 13, 2026 | Design goals, Dwarf and Undead changes |
| Race and class article | September 22, 2026 | All racial traits of every race |
| Meet the Skyborne | September 22, 2026 | Skyborne traits for both factions |
| Beta development notes | September 24 and October 1 | Changes to several traits |
Dates are the publication dates on Blizzard's U.S. pages and forums.
The full list followed on September 22, 2026, in Blizzard's race and class article.
That article marks passives with "(Passive)"; the other two traits are active.
It says some traits were updated to support the expanded class options.
Blizzard's Meet the Skyborne article of the same day lists the same Skyborne traits.
The articles give effects and some durations, but no cooldowns.
Beta development notes on September 24 and October 1 then changed several traits.
All of this is beta-era information and can change before launch.

Their own active trait is Read Ley Line, which adds 100% Health and Mana regeneration.
Skyborne: one active trait depends on your faction
Skyborne choose the Horde or the Alliance at character creation.
Horde Skyborne are Windshapers; Alliance Skyborne belong to the High Order.

Both groups get Walk on Air, a 10-second glide downward through the air.
Both get Wind Blessed, which adds 1% melee, ranged and spellcasting Haste.
Both get Elemental Insight, which adds 5% damage to Elementals.
Windshapers get Skysight, an Elemental Blessing that adds 10% run speed.
The High Order gets Read Ley Line instead.
It activates a ley line for 100% more Health and Mana regeneration.
Blizzard does not say how long Skysight or Read Ley Line lasts.
It also does not say where ley lines can be found.
Blizzard's Skyborne and race and class articles list the same four traits per group.

What Blizzard says changed from Classic
Blizzard's race and class article says some racial traits were updated for Forever.
It does not mark which ones changed.
Only the Deep Dive recap names Classic changes, and only for Dwarves and Undead.
| Race | Trait | Change Blizzard describes |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarf | Stoneform | Reduces Physical damage instead of increasing Armor |
| Dwarf | Find Treasure | Can stay active with other tracking |
| Dwarf | Mace Specialization | Crit for all spells and abilities with a mace |
| Dwarf | Big Game Hunter | Increased damage against Beasts |
| Undead | Will of the Forsaken | No longer grants immunity |
| Undead | Cannibalize | Restores Mana as well as Health |
| Undead | Underwater Breathing | Unchanged |
| Undead | Touch of the Grave | New racial |
From Blizzard's Deep Dive panel recap.
Stoneform still removes and grants immunity to Bleeds, Poisons and Diseases.
Its defensive bonus now reduces Physical damage taken instead of increasing Armor.
Blizzard says that makes Stoneform useful to more classes.
Find Treasure can now stay active alongside other tracking abilities.
Mace Specialization now adds crit to all spells and abilities while a mace is equipped.
Big Game Hunter grants increased damage against Beasts.
Will of the Forsaken still removes Charm, Fear and Sleep but no longer grants immunity.
Cannibalize now restores Mana as well as Health.
Blizzard names Mages, Warlocks, Paladins and Priests as the classes that gain from this.
Underwater Breathing is unchanged, and Touch of the Grave is a new racial.
For the other six races, Blizzard has not published a trait-by-trait Classic comparison.
We do not fill that gap with datamined tooltip values, because they are not official.
Beta changes so far: September 24 and October 1
Blizzard's beta development notes have already changed several racial traits.
The notes are in English on Blizzard's U.S. forums.
| Notes | Trait | Change |
|---|---|---|
| September 24 | Eureka! (Gnome) | 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities, every class |
| September 24 | Cultivation (Tauren) | Level per herb = Herbalism skill ÷ 5over 300 skill: level 60 |
| September 24 | Touch of the Grave (Undead) | No crowd-control breaks; only damaging spells and abilities |
| September 24 | Will to Survive (Human) | New visual |
| October 1 | Eureka! (Gnome) | No longer benefits periodic effects |
| October 1 | Cannibalize (Undead) | Not usable while immune to Physical damage |
| October 1 | Cooldown Manager | Now supports racial abilities |
From Blizzard's beta development notes, posted September 24 and October 1, 2026.
On September 24, Gnome Eureka! became a 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities.
The notes say this applies to every class.
They do not say whether the announced 10% damage or healing bonus remains.
On October 1, Eureka! stopped benefiting periodic effects at all.
Channeled spells do not count as periodic effects, the notes add.
Known issue: for some classes, Eureka! misses some damaging or healing spells.
Blizzard says that is fixed in a later build.
Tauren Cultivation now needs a character level for every herb.
That level is the Herbalism skill needed to pick the herb, divided by 5.
Herbs that need more than 300 Herbalism can be Cultivated at level 60.
By our calculation, a herb that needs 150 skill can be grown from level 30.
Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control.
It also no longer triggers from spells or abilities without a damage component.
Shadow Word: Pain triggers it on cast, but not on its periodic damage.
Distract, Pick Pocket and Polymorph no longer trigger it.
Human Will to Survive got a new visual that matches Dispel Magic.
On October 1, Cannibalize became unusable while you are immune to Physical damage.
The same update added racial abilities to the built-in Cooldown Manager.
Where Blizzard's English, German and Korean pages differ
We read Blizzard's race and class article in English, German and Korean.
Every percentage and duration is the same in all three versions.
Two descriptions differ in the German version.
German Shatter Curse instantly removes all Curses and Banes.
The English and Korean versions describe immunity to them instead.
German Stoneform removes harmful Bleed, Poison and Disease effects.
The English and Korean versions again describe immunity.
The Deep Dive recap says Stoneform does both: it removes the effects and grants immunity.
No other official text settles the Shatter Curse wording yet.
The Korean article also names two traits differently from the Korean game data.
That is a naming issue only; the effects match.
Not announced yet, player feedback and a checklist
Blizzard has not published cooldowns for any active racial trait.
It has not said how much Stoneform or Shatter Curse reduces damage.
Touch of the Grave has no published chance or drain amount.
Cannibalize and Rapid Regeneration only say "over time", with no duration.
Escape Artist's immunity is only called brief.
Plainsrunning has no published speed cap.
Engineering Specialization only promises more reliable devices, with no number.
Our October 5 daily report covered Blizzard forum threads from October 4–5 (Korean time).
In it, 11 new thread titles mentioned racials.
The most viewed had 248 views and 9 posts, with no Blizzard staff reply in our list.
Several were feedback on Skyborne or Dwarf racials; those are player opinions.
Race-specific priest spells are a separate system, covered in our priest guide.
Before you create a character, check the in-game tooltips, since beta values can change.
