Blizzard published its WoW Forever class deep dive for Priest and Warrior on September 30, 2026.

This guide lists every Priest change in that article and adds the Priest items from the beta development notes of September 24 as change history.

We checked the English, German and Korean versions of the article on October 2, 2026

We have not tested these changes in the beta ourselves.

Blizzard frames the Priest update as wider access to important tools plus new talent options for healing, utility and Shadow damage.

Four spells become baseline: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at level 20 for every race, Divine Spirit at level 30 and Shadow Word: Death at level 32.

Every Priest race still has two racial spells

Blizzard re-evaluated all of them and gave Gnome Priests new ones.

Prayer of Healing and Renew also change how Priests heal groups, and each talent tree gets new gold-medal talents.

Talents open at level 10 and keep the one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point milestone.

You change talents, including Legacy talents, at a class trainer in a major city, and Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.

Blizzard calls the Priest the most versatile healer in World of Warcraft: it can use both heals over time and direct heals, plus absorb shields.

It also names the weaknesses: cloth armor, few ways to escape enemies, and a Shadow specialization that lacks the full utility of a class such as the Warlock.

Blizzard notes that class abilities and talents may keep changing throughout the beta.

What changes in Forever

Fear Ward is now available to all Priests at level 20, regardless of race.

Devouring Plague is also available to all Priests at level 20, regardless of race.

Divine Spirit is now a baseline spell learned at level 30, so it is no longer a talent.

Shadow Word: Death joins every Priest at level 32 and deals instant Shadow damage.

If the target is not killed by it, you take damage equal to 10% of your maximum health.

Shadow Word: Death has a 15 second cooldown.

Shadow Word: Death32New baseline spell10% of your max health if the target survives; 15 second cooldown

Spells that every Priest now learns, with the level from Blizzard's class deep dive.

Fade's threat reduction effect is doubled.

Prayer of Healing no longer heals your own party

It now heals all members of the target's party and their pets.

Renew from several Priests can now be active on the same target.

Racial spells: each Priest race has two spells unique to it, and Blizzard says it fully re-evaluated them and added new ones for Gnome Priests.

Gnome: Confounding Flash, learned at level 10, confuses up to 5 nearby enemies for 3 seconds

Damage breaks the effect, and it has a 0.5 second cast and a 2-minute cooldown.

Gnome: Contingency Plan, learned at level 20, places a ward on an ally for 30 seconds

If the ally's health drops below 35%, they instantly get a damage absorb shield and a heal over time.

Both Contingency Plan effects stack with Renew and Power Word: Shield

The spell is an instant cast with a 5-minute cooldown.

Dwarf: Desperate Prayer is unchanged.

Dwarf: Chastise, learned at level 20, damages a Humanoid target and immobilizes it for 2 seconds (instant cast, 2-minute cooldown).

Human: Divine Grace, learned at level 10, instantly heals an ally below 50% health and removes Weakened Soul from them

It cannot be cast on yourself and has a 5-minute cooldown.

Human: Feedback is unchanged.

Night Elf: Starshards is still learned at level 10 and deals substantially more damage, but now has a 30 second cooldown.

Night Elf: Elune's Grace is still learned at level 20 and has a 5-minute cooldown.

It now lowers the chance for melee and ranged attacks to hit you by 50% for 15 seconds or until 3 attacks have missed.

Troll: Hex of Weakness and Shadowguard are unchanged.

Undead: Touch of Weakness is unchanged, and Dark Sacrifice, learned at level 20, turns your own health into Mana over time, with more Mana from higher Spirit.

Change history: the beta development notes of September 24 had already fixed Renew and the Gnome spell Contingency Plan so they can land critical hits.

The same notes let Power Word: Shield always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield on a target without Weakened Soul.

They also gave Confounding Flash a cast visual that is more Holy than Arcane, with matching sounds.

For Night Elves, the notes made Starshards correctly gain resistance to spell pushback from the Twilight Focus talent.

For Undead, Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks crowd control that breaks on damage, and its tooltip now correctly shows that the Mana gained scales with Spirit.

Gold-medal talents are the one-point milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points in a tree

The deep dive names five new or moved ones for Priests.

Discipline gets Soul Warding at 16 points and Penance at 21 points.

Holy gets Binding Heal at 16 points and Prayer of Mending at 31 points.

Shadow gets Vampiric Embrace at 16 points.

Gold-medal talents named in the deep dive. “Not named” means the article does not name that milestone for this tree.

Soul Warding lowers the cooldown and Mana cost of Power Word: Shield and requires Improved Power Word: Shield.

Penance is channeled over 2 seconds with a 12 second cooldown

It damages an enemy every second or heals an ally every second.

Binding Heal is a new spell with no cooldown and a 1.5 second cast that heals you and your current target

Blizzard tuned it to be as good as Flash Heal even when you need no healing.

Prayer of Mending requires Spirit of Redemption and has a 10 second cooldown

It lasts 30 seconds on the target and heals them the next time they take damage or receive non-periodic healing.

It then jumps to another party or raid member within 20 yards until it has healed 5 times in total.

Each target can have only one Prayer of Mending at a time.

Vampiric Embrace moves to row 3 as the Shadow 16-point talent and now lasts 30 seconds with a 1-minute cooldown.

Discipline changes: Power in Light (new, row 1) raises Smite and Penance damage on targets with your Holy Fire.

Twin Disciplines (new, row 1) raises damage and healing from instant-cast spells.

Wand Specialization now needs only 2 talent points for the same benefit.

Silent Resolve now also shortens Stun, Fear and Silence effects on you.

Holy Precision raises hit chance with Holy spells by up to 18%

Blizzard says it is meant to remove the need for hit chance on healing Priests, who are not expected to wear hit gear.

Improved Power Word: Shield gives slightly more per talent point, and Meditation gets substantially more Mana from Spirit.

Mental Agility moves from row 4 to row 3, costs only 3 talent points for the same effect and now also covers Smite and Holy Fire.

Improved Inner Fire adds more Armor and now also adds charges.

Mental Strength now raises Intellect by a larger percentage instead of Mana.

Improved Mana Burn shortens Mana Burn's cast time further.

Renewed Hope (new, requires Soul Warding) raises the critical strike chance of Flash Heal, Binding Heal, Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal and Penance on targets with Weakened Soul.

Each of those heals also shortens Weakened Soul on the target.

Divine Aegis: critical heals place an absorb shield on the target for 12 seconds, based on a percentage of the amount healed

It does not stack.

Removed from Discipline: Unbreakable Will is merged into Silent Resolve.

Improved Power Word: Fortitude and Divine Spirit are now baseline, and Force of Will is removed.

Discipline talent changes in the deep dive.

Holy changes: Twilight Focus (formerly Healing Focus) now protects all spellcasts from pushback but costs 3 talent points instead of 2.

Blessed Recovery now also triggers from any single attack that deals more than 30% of your maximum health.

Inspiration now triggers from all non-periodic critical heals.

Improved Healing now also lowers the Mana cost of Penance and Prayer of Mending.

Searing Light is redesigned: it raises all Holy damage by a smaller percentage and gives Holy Fire damage a chance to make your next Holy Nova cost no Mana.

Litany of Light refunds part of a healing spell's Mana cost when its name differs from the previous healing spell you cast.

Spiritual Guidance's spell damage bonus drops to about one third of its spell healing bonus.

Spiritual Healing needs only 3 talent points for the same benefit.

Removed from Holy: Improved Prayer of Healing and Lightwell.

Holy talent changes in the deep dive.

Shadow changes: Shadow Focus moves from row 2 to row 1 and now raises the hit chance of Shadow spells instead of lowering the target's chance to resist.

Shadow Affinity reduces threat from Shadow spells slightly more.

Shadow Reach moves from row 4 to row 2 and needs only 2 talent points for the same effect.

Improved Psychic Scream now requires Blackout, while Silence no longer requires Improved Psychic Scream.

Improved Mind Flay (new, row 3, requires Mind Flay) raises Mind Flay's damage and range but weakens its movement slow.

Shadow Weaving now benefits only the casting Priest, not other party or raid members, and its damage increase is moderately lower.

Devouring Contagion (new, row 5) lowers Devouring Plague's Mana cost.

When a target dies with Devouring Plague on it, the plague jumps to a new enemy within 5 yards with the same remaining duration.

Early Demise (new, row 6) raises Shadow Word: Death's critical strike chance on targets below 20% health.

Shadowform now lets you cast all non-healing spells and lowers the Mana cost of all Shadow spells by 50%.

It also raises the critical strike damage bonus of Shadow spells by 100%, but its bonus to Shadow damage is lower.

Removed from Shadow: Improved Vampiric Embrace.

Leveling

The deep dive gives no official leveling route or leveling talent build for Priests.

It does give level milestones that change what a Priest has available while leveling.

At level 10 talents open, and Gnome, Human and Night Elf Priests learn Confounding Flash, Divine Grace or Starshards.

At level 20 every Priest learns Fear Ward and Devouring Plague.

At the same level, Gnome, Dwarf, Night Elf and Undead Priests learn Contingency Plan, Chastise, Elune's Grace or Dark Sacrifice.

At level 30 Divine Spirit becomes a baseline spell, and at level 32 you learn Shadow Word: Death.

At level 40 Dual Specialization becomes available.

Our reading, not Blizzard's: Shadow Word: Death costs 10% of your maximum health when the target survives.

That makes it safest as a finisher on low-health targets (our reading).

Each talent change still costs a trip to a class trainer in a major city.

Priest level milestones in Forever

  1. Level 10Talents; Confounding Flash, Divine Grace or Starshards
  2. Level 20Fear Ward, Devouring Plague and the second racial spell for four races

Stat priority

Blizzard has not published a stat priority for any Priest specialization in Forever.

The deep dive does say which stats several talents use, and we list those here instead of guessing a ranking.

StatWhere the deep dive uses itPriority
SpiritMeditation, Dark SacrificeNot published
IntellectMental StrengthNot published
Hit chanceHoly Precision, Shadow Focusup to 18% for Holy spellsNot published
Critical strikeInspiration, Divine Aegis, Renewed Hope, ShadowformNot published
Spell damage vs. healingSpiritual GuidanceNot published

Stat effects named in the deep dive. The ranking itself is not published.

Spirit: Meditation gets substantially more Mana from Spirit, and the Undead spell Dark Sacrifice gives more Mana with more Spirit.

Intellect: Mental Strength now raises Intellect by a percentage instead of Mana.

Hit chance: Holy Precision adds up to 18% hit with Holy spells, and Shadow Focus adds hit chance for Shadow spells.

Critical strike: Inspiration, Divine Aegis and Renewed Hope build on critical heals.

Shadowform raises the critical strike damage bonus of Shadow spells by 100%.

Spell damage and healing: Spiritual Guidance now gives a spell damage bonus of only about one third of its spell healing bonus.

We will add a priority only when Blizzard or final tuning makes one verifiable.

Gear

Priests wear cloth armor, which Blizzard lists as one of the class's main weaknesses.

Blizzard says healing Priests are not expected to wear gear with hit chance, which is why Holy Precision now adds up to 18% hit with Holy spells.

Wand Specialization now gives its full benefit for 2 talent points.

Improved Inner Fire now adds more Armor and more charges to Inner Fire.

Blizzard has not published Priest gear lists, and we do not name best-in-slot items.

Recommended professions

Blizzard does not recommend professions for Priests, and the deep dive contains no profession changes for the class.

We therefore make no Priest-specific profession recommendation.

For the profession and camping changes that apply to every class, see our camping and professions guide.

Addons and macros

The deep dive names no Priest addons or macros.

The beta notes of September 24 list the Priest among the classes that can test the new Cooldown Manager.

The Cooldown Manager is off by default

You turn it on in Options under the Gameplay Enhancement settings, and it does not support spell ranks yet.

The same notes list a known issue: the Priest tracks all spells by default.

Our reading: because Prayer of Healing now heals the target's party, you can heal another group by targeting one of its members.

A target or mouseover macro makes that quicker (our reading).

Our reading: with Renew able to stack across Priests, raid frames that show your own Renew separately from other Priests' become more useful.

In the same data, a beta forum thread asking Blizzard to rethink Shadow Priest design had 660 likes and 86 replies.

An r/classicwow request to add Vampiric Touch had 184 upvotes and 139 comments.

Two of these four threads are about Shadow Priest design.

On Shadow's group utility, the deep dive says Shadow Weaving now helps only the casting Priest.

Vampiric Embrace is a 16-point talent lasting 30 seconds on a 1-minute cooldown.

Vampiric Touch does not appear in the deep dive.
