Blizzard published its WoW Forever class deep dive for Mage and Shaman on October 7, 2026.

That is the U.S. publication date.

This guide covers every Shaman change in that article.

We read the U.S. English article on October 9 and rechecked it on October 10, 2026.

We have not tested these changes in the beta ourselves.

Blizzard edited the Shaman section after the article went live.

A community manager said so in the forum thread.

The edits added the Elemental Mastery and Nature's Guidance removals.

They also put Rockbiter Weapon in the weapon imbue list.

Blizzard's aim is to make the Shaman's iconic tools more responsive in combat.

Totem placement, timing and elemental utility are meant to stay central to the class.

Totems get a 1.0 second global cooldown and a tracking UI.

Totems with persistent buffs now last 5 minutes.

Weapon imbues last 60 minutes.

They now work alongside sharpening stones, weightstones and Wizard Oil.

New tools arrive at levels 20, 22, 30 and 40.

They are Totemic Recall, Totemic Projection and three Call spells.

Stormstrike moves to the 16-point milestone with an 8 second cooldown.

Elemental Combat gets Lava Burst.

Talents open at level 10.

One-point milestone talents sit at 11, 21 and 31 points, plus a new one at 16 points.

You change talents, including Legacy talents, at a class trainer in a major city.

Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.

Blizzard calls Shaman one of the sturdiest classes, with Mail armor and a Shield.

They can deal melee or spell damage or heal, but they lack effective crowd control.

Who can be a Shaman: on the Alliance only Dwarves, a new pairing in Forever.

On the Horde, Orcs, Tauren, Trolls and Horde-aligned Skyborne (Windshapers) can be Shaman.

Blizzard notes that class abilities and talents may keep changing throughout the beta.

What changes in Forever

All totems now have a 1.0 second global cooldown, down from 1.5 seconds.

Totems that give persistent buffs now last 5 minutes instead of 2 minutes.

Shorter-duration totems are not affected.

A new tracking UI shows which totems are active and how long they have left.

Right-click a totem in that UI to unsummon it instantly.

Resistance totems now give their resistance bonus to the entire raid group.

All four weapon imbues now last 60 minutes instead of 5 minutes.

They are Frostbrand Weapon, Flametongue Weapon, Rockbiter Weapon and Windfury Weapon.

Imbues can now be active together with Sharpening Stones, Weight Stones and Wizard Oil.

Totem and imbue rules from Blizzard's October 7 class deep dive.

Fire Nova Totem is removed and replaced by a new Fire Nova spell.

Fire Nova erupts Fire damage at the location of your current Fire totem.

So you can place one Fire totem and trigger area damage there several times.

Windfury Totem is no longer a weapon enchantment; it is now a party-wide buff.

A Shaman with Windfury Weapon on their weapon cannot benefit from Windfury Totem.

A party cannot combine Windfury Totem with Grace of Air or Flametongue Totem.

Flametongue Totem is also a party-wide buff now instead of a weapon enchantment.

A Shaman with Flametongue Weapon cannot benefit from Flametongue Totem.

A party cannot benefit from Flametongue Totem together with Windfury Totem.

Tranquil Air Totem is removed.

Totemic Recall, learned at level 20, instantly destroys all your totems.

It returns 25% of their Mana cost.

Blizzard's article notes a current beta bug: the Mana is not being refunded.

The beta notes of October 1 had listed a fix for Totemic Recall not restoring Mana.

The October 7 article is the newer statement.

So treat the refund as not working yet in the beta.

Totemic Projection is learned at level 22.

It teleports all your totems to a new spot within 30 yards.

It has a 1-minute cooldown and costs 25% of base Mana.

Call of the Elements, learned at level 20, unlocks the totem bar.

On the bar you pre-set 4 totems, one of each element.

Call of the Elements then summons all 4 after a 3 second cast.

It costs as much Mana as the 4 totems together.

Call of the Spirits at level 30 adds a second set of 4 totems.

Call of the Ancestors at level 40 adds a third set.

New Shaman tools and the level you learn them.

Lightning Bolt ranks 4 and up now cast in 2.5 seconds instead of 3 seconds.

Chain Lightning now casts in 2 seconds instead of 2.5 seconds at every rank.

Blizzard lowered both spells' spell power coefficients to match the faster casts.

Change history: the September 24 beta notes raised Lightning Bolt rank 3 and 4 damage.

That made them always better than the earlier ranks.

The same notes gave Lava Burst ranks 1 and 2 about 10% more base damage.

That is compared with the Lightning Bolt rank learned around the same level.

They also stopped Flametongue Totem from stacking when recast.

Riptide can now land critical hits as well.

The October 1 notes fixed Disease Cleansing Totem so it lasts 5 minutes.

They also made Ghost Wolf more visible in well-lit areas.

Only the Totemic Recall refund conflicts with the October 7 article.

Gold-medal talents are one-point milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points in a tree.

Elemental Combat: Call of Thunder at 16, Earthbound at 21 and Lava Burst at 31 points.

Enhancement: Shamanistic Focus at 11, Stormstrike at 16, Rage of the Farseer at 31 points.

Restoration: Water Shield at 11, Mana Tide Totem at 16 and Riptide at 31 points.

Blizzard calls Spirit Weapons a 21-point talent but not a gold medal.

Milestone talents named in the deep dive. “Not named” means the article names none for that tree.

Elemental Combat: Convection now also lowers the Mana cost of Lava Burst.

Concussion no longer applies to Frost Shock or Flame Shock.

Reverberation moves from row 3 up to row 2.

Call of Flame now also raises the damage of Flame Shock, Fire Nova and Lava Burst.

Elemental Devastation moves from row 4 up to row 2.

Blizzard wants it to tempt Enhancement Shaman into spending points in Elemental Combat.

Elemental Focus now triggers less often from low-rank spells.

Elemental Alacrity (formerly Lightning Mastery) moves from row 6 up to row 3.

It now needs only 3 points for max rank.

At max rank it cuts Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning cast times by 0.5 seconds.

It also shortens the cast time of Lava Burst.

Blizzard says the talent sat too deep for leveling Shaman.

It was also twice as strong as similar talents of other classes.

That caused a spell power scaling problem.

Improved Fire Nova (formerly Improved Fire Totems) is redesigned.

It now gives Fire Nova more damage and a shorter cooldown.

Eye of the Storm is redesigned: it now resists spell pushback from damage.

It works while casting Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst.

It used to work only after you took a critical strike, which made it mostly a PvP talent.

Call of Thunder moves from row 3 down to row 4 and requires Elemental Alacrity.

It is now the 16-point gold medal talent.

It gives Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning 3% more critical strike chance.

Elemental Reach now also adds up to 6 yards of range to Fire Nova and Lava Burst.

It adds up to 15 yards to Flame Shock.

Lightning Overload is a new row 5 talent.

Each Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning gets a chance to cast a second copy.

The copy is instant, costs no Mana, deals half damage and causes no threat.

Earthbound is the new 21-point gold medal talent.

It makes Earthbind Totem immobilize nearby targets for 5 seconds when cast.

Elemental Fury moves from row 5 down to row 6 and requires Call of Thunder.

Lava Burst (new, 31-point gold medal) is a 2.5 second cast with a 10 second cooldown.

It deals Fire damage, 20% more if the target has your Flame Shock.

Removed: Elemental Mastery.

Blizzard says it was a signature talent, especially in PvP, but it held the class back.

With it, Elemental PvE damage could not be raised to the right level.

Doing so would have made Elemental far too strong in PvP.

So Blizzard removed it and gave Elemental Shaman new spells and capabilities instead.

Elemental Combat talent changes in the deep dive.

Enhancement: Earth's Grasp moves from Elemental Combat to row 1 of Enhancement.

Thundering Strikes moves from row 2 up to row 1.

It now raises critical strike chance for all spells and attacks.

Ancestral Knowledge now raises Intellect instead of maximum Mana.

Mental Dexterity (new, row 2) raises your Attack Power by a percentage of your Intellect.

Improved Ghost Wolf rank 1 makes Ghost Wolf usable indoors and 1 second faster to cast.

Rank 2 makes Ghost Wolf instant.

Elemental Weapons moves from row 5 up to row 3.

Shamanistic Focus is the new 11-point gold medal talent.

It cuts the Mana cost of Shocks and Lightning Shield by a large percentage.

Anticipation now gives twice as much Dodge chance.

Toughness no longer adds Armor and raises Stamina by a percentage instead.

Flurry now gives 5% attack speed per point, up to 25% instead of 30%.

Flurry now requires Mental Dexterity instead of Thundering Strikes.

Stormstrike moves from the 31-point to the 16-point gold medal.

Its cooldown drops from 20 seconds to 8 seconds.

It now adds 20% damage to your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock.

Before, it boosted the next 2 Nature attacks from any attacker.

Spirit Weapons (formerly Parry) is the 21-point talent.

It lowers your threat while you are not using Rockbiter Weapon.

With Rockbiter Weapon it raises your threat instead.

Blizzard says this helps Enhancement manage threat now that its damage is competitive.

It also keeps the option to tank for a while in small groups.

Mental Quickness is a new row 5 talent.

It raises spell damage and healing by a percentage of your Intellect.

Improved Stormstrike (new, row 5) requires Stormstrike.

It gives Stormstrike a chance to turn on Mana regeneration while casting.

It also gives a chance to reset Stormstrike's cooldown when you Dodge or Parry.

Blizzard says this lets Enhancement Shaman regenerate Mana from Spirit.

Maelstrom Weapon is a new row 6 talent.

Melee attacks can stack Maelstrom charges that shorten Lightning Bolt's cast.

With enough ranks and charges, Lightning Bolt becomes instant.

Rage of the Farseer is the new 31-point gold medal talent.

It raises attack speed by 30% for 25 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown.

Blizzard drew on Heroism and Bloodlust from early expansions.

But it is a personal cooldown, not a party or raid effect.

Removed: Shield Specialization.

Now baseline: Enhancing Totems and Two-Handed Axes and Maces.

Weapon Mastery and Improved Weapon Totems are baseline too.

Restoration: Totemic Focus moves from row 2 up to row 1.

It now also discounts Totemic Projection and the totem Call spells.

Mindfulness is a new row 2 talent.

In Blizzard's wording, it lets you regenerate Spirit while spellcasting.

Blizzard placed it so Elemental Shaman can reach it.

Natural Grace (formerly Healing Grace) moves from row 3 up to row 2.

It now lowers threat from all spells.

Tidal Focus now also raises hit chance with all spells and attacks.

Improved Reincarnation now also raises maximum health by a percentage.

Ancestral Healing moves down from row 2 to row 3.

Healing Focus needs only 3 talent points for full effect instead of 5.

Water Shield is the new 11-point gold medal talent and gives you a new shield.

Only one shield can be active at a time.

Its 3 globes give Mana when an attack hits you or when one of your heals is a critical.

Tidal Mastery no longer affects Lightning spells.

Restorative Totems' bonus to Healing Stream Totem is doubled.

Mana Tide Totem moves from the 31-point to the 16-point gold medal.

Healing Way is redesigned and raises Healing Wave's healing by a percentage.

Riptide is the new 31-point gold medal talent and requires Healing Way.

It heals instantly and then over 15 seconds.

It has a 6 second cooldown.

Your Chain Heal is 25% more effective on targets with your Riptide.

Leveling

The deep dive gives no official leveling route or leveling talent build for Shaman.

It does give level milestones that change what a Shaman has while leveling.

At level 10 talents open.

At level 20 you learn Totemic Recall and Call of the Elements.

Call of the Elements unlocks the totem bar.

At level 22 you learn Totemic Projection.

At level 30 Call of the Spirits adds a second totem set.

At level 40 Call of the Ancestors adds a third set.

Dual Specialization also becomes available at level 40.

Blizzard moved Elemental Alacrity up to row 3.

Leveling Shaman could not reach it before.

Our calculation assumes one talent point per level from level 10.

It also assumes Classic's 5 points per row and no Legacy perks.

On that basis, your first row 3 point comes at level 20.

The third Elemental Alacrity point comes at level 22.

Fire Nova now erupts at your existing Fire totem.

So one Fire totem serves several Fire Nova casts.

Improved Ghost Wolf makes Ghost Wolf usable indoors at rank 1 and instant at rank 2.

Our reading: set up the totem bar right at level 20 so one cast drops your usual 4 totems.

Each talent change still costs a trip to a class trainer in a major city.

Stat priority

Blizzard has not published a stat priority for any Shaman specialization in Forever.

The deep dive does say which stats several talents use.

We list those instead of guessing a ranking.

StatWhere the deep dive uses itPriority
IntellectAncestral Knowledge, Mental Dexterity, Mental QuicknessNot published
SpiritMindfulness, Improved StormstrikeNot published
Critical strikeThundering Strikes, Call of Thunder, Water Shield3% for Lightning Bolt and Chain LightningNot published
Hit chanceTidal FocusNot published
StaminaToughnessNot published

Stat effects named in the deep dive. The ranking itself is not published.

Intellect: Ancestral Knowledge now raises Intellect.

Mental Dexterity turns Intellect into Attack Power.

Mental Quickness turns it into spell damage and healing.

Spirit: in Blizzard's wording, Mindfulness lets you regenerate Spirit while casting.

Improved Stormstrike lets Enhancement regenerate Mana from Spirit.

Critical strike: Thundering Strikes now covers all spells and attacks.

Call of Thunder adds 3% for Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning.

Water Shield gives Mana when one of your heals is a critical.

Hit chance: Tidal Focus now raises hit chance with all spells and attacks.

Stamina: Toughness now raises Stamina by a percentage.

Spell power: Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning have lower spell power coefficients.

That matches their faster casts.

We will add a priority only when Blizzard or final tuning makes one verifiable.

Gear

Blizzard calls Shaman one of the sturdiest classes.

It lists Mail armor and a Shield among the reasons.

Two-Handed Axes and Maces is now baseline, so it no longer costs a talent point.

Shield Specialization is removed from Enhancement.

Weapon imbues now last 60 minutes.

They stack with Sharpening Stones, Weight Stones and Wizard Oil.

So one weapon can carry a Shaman imbue and a temporary enchant at the same time.

Remember the totem rule for your own weapon.

Windfury Weapon or Flametongue Weapon there blocks your benefit from the matching totem.

Blizzard has not published Shaman gear lists, and we do not name best-in-slot items.

Recommended professions

Blizzard does not recommend professions for Shaman.

The deep dive has no profession changes for the class.

Our reading: imbues now stack with stones and Wizard Oil.

So those consumables matter more for Shaman.

In Classic, Blacksmithing makes sharpening stones and weightstones.

Enchanting makes Wizard Oil.

We still make no Shaman-specific profession recommendation.

Profession and camping changes apply to every class.

See our camping and professions guide for them.

Addons and macros

The deep dive names no Shaman addons or macros.

Forever builds two totem tools into the game.

They are the tracking UI with right-click unsummon and the totem bar for Call spells.

Our reading: these cover jobs that Classic players often gave to totem timer addons.

The September 24 beta notes opened the new Cooldown Manager to five classes.

They are Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock.

The October 1 notes added Rogue; neither update names Shaman.

The following community numbers come from our daily data collected on October 9, 2026.

The deep dive thread on Blizzard's U.S. forums had 766 likes and 220 replies.

An r/classicwow thread about Elemental Shaman in Forever had 66 upvotes and 75 comments.

An r/classicwow thread asked whether Enhancement Mana problems are overblown.

It had 32 upvotes and 66 comments.

On Blizzard's forums, a thread argued that Forever pushes Enhancement onto Flametongue.

It had 38 likes and 44 replies.

A forum thread asking why totem summoning takes so long had 20 likes and 16 replies.

What the official text says on these points: totems now have a 1.0 second global cooldown.

Call of the Elements has a 3 second cast but drops 4 totems at once.

For Enhancement Mana, Shamanistic Focus cuts Shock and Lightning Shield costs.

Improved Stormstrike adds Mana regeneration while casting.

On weapons, a Shaman with Windfury Weapon gets no benefit from Windfury Totem.

These threads are player opinions, not Blizzard statements.
